what motors came stock in 55 and will bolt in ?
Is the 248 a good motor to stay with?

if you wanted to stay GMC probebly would have to go with poncho engine dont know witch one would be stock
248 is a good engine but if it has a hole in the side of the block from the piston not much you can do expt keep the crank and head and outher spare parts | | |

Both will look very similar to your 248 and should bolt up like they were put there by the factory (unless you get a military 302, which does have some differences).
I have a 270 in my 55, which came stock with the 248. Unless I tell someone, they can't tell without checking the casting or serial numbers.

One will bolt in, but you do need to change the bell housing as well as the motor. The hydramatic would take the power if you don't build a hot-rodded V8.

I once owned a '57 Pontiac with a 347 and a Hydromatic. That some combination was used in GMC pickups at the same time.
