I removed this 235 from a 56 3100 that was running great with non correct block. If it's a pressure engine, I might put it in the 53 3100 since the 216 rear main on it is leaking a lot, and I would be more comfortable removing the crank to put the seal in it than fishing the upper one through. If any of y'all have done that let me know. In my past experience, I know it is best to just remove the crank, but if I have to do that, and I have a pressure engine, I might as well just swap them since the 235 is doing nothing but taking up space.

The 235 is a 54 block with the water pump above the head gasket with the 4 valve cover screws. It does not have a removeable plate on the drivers side, but it does have an oil line that loops from the front to the back on the drivers side of the block.

I also have a 59 Biscayne with the correct 235 engine, but I don't want to start removing parts from it when I have the other engine sitting around.

My experience has been with small blocks, but the Stovebolt has gotten my attention. Excuse my ignorance on these engines, but I'm ready to learn and take all advice.

I did read the article about replacing the rear seal on this site, but I just don't know what to think unless the crank is removed.

I also read an article that ID'd the 235's which got me confused because it seemed this engine didn't fall into an easy category.

If y'all have had success with it, I will probably do that until the 216 gives up. I just hate having oil drip everywhere. Embarrassing. Thanks for the input.

Help ID this 235 pressure or no

The 235 is a 54 block with the water pump above the head gasket with the 4 valve cover screws.

That would be a high pressure engine.
