The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Engine Shop Which Carb???

A couple of months ago CarbKing mentioned using a Carter 400 cfm from an ole' 283. Well after looking around I found none. Most of the yards are more like recycle yards rather than bone yards being the high price of scrap to eliminate non computerized vehicles. I'm friends with more than one owner. Some have a few old rigs but not much in them anymore. Anyhow I have an 87 Chevy Full Size with a remanufactured 292 thats getting a small cam upgrade to a 240/248 with .455 lift. Its a small rv cam made out of billet steel. Not too much above stock so it will idle smooth. My two choices seem to be the Edelbrock 500 CFM which is a good carb for my rig but its a 4X4 and I like going out in the back country camping, exploring and such sooooo I was also thinking of the Holley Avenger Off Road model. Its a 470 CFM with side hung floats and power valve blow out protection, no trouble metering block, one piece off road vent tube to prevent fuel spilling over. Can handle up to a 40 degree tilt. Which would be the best? I already have the Offy manifold. My engine should be back next week and I need to order one of these carbs. It will also have headers at the same time. Finally almost finished. Then its new carpet and posi. The original owner, (I'm the second owner) had put in a new tranny not too many miles ago. I have a modest 3" lift on it. Almost a new truck. Something to be said for having no payments!
