OK all you "carb-sharks" out there! Someone tell me just what kind of bizarre setup I've got here.

According to the number stamped on the bowl casting, this is a model 2100S carb.

On the 1st pic, I have circled what looks like a vent shaft on the side of the carb. Notice the top casting does not cover the top of the vent.

The 2nd pic is a close up of the top of the vent.

The 3rd pic is a close up of the bottom casting where the vent shaft ends up, against solid cast iron. !

What is the purpose of this vent? Has someone put the wrong top and bottom casting on this? Is it OK to run as is? Does someone have an exploded view/schematic of this model carb they would be willing to e-mail, post, snail-mail or whatever?

Thanks guys (and gals! wink )

Can someone tell me if these pics are working? I know the first set didn't, but the 2nd set should.

Thanks

The second set of pictures works fine for me, but I don't know the answer to your question.

Is that vertical passage intersected by any horizontal passages in the carb base?

Take a really close look at the stamped number.

Carter 2100s is a manual choke carburetor.

Carter 2101S is an automatic choke carburetor. The vacuum passage pictured in the bowl is the supply vacuum to operate the automatic choke on the 2101S. The airhorn on the 2101S has a matching passage to that on the bowl, that then goes into the automatic choke unit behind the piston. The vacuum bleeds from behind the piston to cause a vacuum inside the automatic choke housing, and draw hot air through the heat tube.

Should be able to simply plug the passageway and the carb will work fine.

Jon.

Thanks Carbking!

It is possible that the number is 2101S. The "YF210" is very legible. The last digit, either a "0" or "1" is very faint, not stamped very deep. The "S" is below the rest of the stamp by a half line. So, who knows?

I put the carb on today and it made all the difference in the world. No more "rottenchestor rot-pots" for me! grin I think I'll still put a kit in it. Do the 2100S and the 2101S take the same kit?

Thanks,
Steve

53Therapy - cannot speak for other kit manufacturers, but we have two different for the two carbs.
