Ok, I have printed and read all I can on this suject and I am now "as confused as a termite in a Yo-Yo".

I am going to install a Chevy small block 350 attached to a 700R4 transmission in my 1941 1 Ton pick up.

I am going to keep the original look as much as possible including the 17" rims with 7.50 X 17 tires 33 1/2" tall.

My stock rear end width is 53" Backing Plate to Backing Plate and 61" Mounting Surface to Mounting Surface.

Can anyone suggest an easy swap. Since I have a 1941 AN rear end it would appear that I can not just change the pumpkin/ring and pinion on my current housing.

Suggestions and are a line on the rear end assembly are deeply appreciated.

Many Thanks,
Dave Murray

Dave,

Almost all 3/4 ton and up GM trucks had frame rails that are parallel and 34" apart (outside to outside).

Here is a link to some pictures I took when installing an '87 GMC 1-ton (w/Duals) rear end under a '55 2nd series 3/4 ton.

This newer rear end is the same width (61 or 62 inches, I'm travelling and can't check at the moment) as the original. I'm under the impression there are wide and narrow versions of this later rear end so I'd check on that when you looking.

'49 Chevy 1/2 ton
'54 Chevy 6400 2 ton
'55.2 GMC 3/4 ton
'56 GMC 1-ton

Thanks OlBlue, Your picture looks like it is a flat bed. My problem is complicated by the fact that mine is a 1 Ton Pick up with is original bed and rear fenders so rear end width is more critical than with a flat bed.

I want to keep all of the wheel inside my fenders. Any other ideas?
