Hello, I am new to this forum and need some help with several unclear issues. I have searched around a little, but can not come up with answers.

I have two GMC pickup trucks that I will be starting to restore this summer, one at the time.

Questions: Does anyone know the year of production, the electrical system 12 or 6 vdc, engine size?

one is a Model 9424, serial # 3942407811, engine XL692301, trim 394, body 258, paint 341.

The other is Model 9434, serial # 8943404993, engine X256774, trim 394, body 361, paint 831.

Both have standard transmissions, how hard is it to rebuild thus? Parts are available for the drive train?

Well, it gets a little bit confusing when talking about Canadian GMCs. In the states GMC went from a 6 volt positive ground to 12 volt negative ground in 1956. Earlier models were 6 volt positive ground, while chevy trucks were 6 volt negative ground. GMC also put different engines in the Canadian trucks. Most likely the 49 would have a 216 chevy engine from the factory, not the 228 GMC motor that was standard in the states.

07811 = regular production number
8943404993
8 = 1948 or 58, if the two trucks look alike then it is a 1948
9434 = GMC pickup delivery, 8800 lbs. g.v.w. 137" wheelbase
04993 = regular production number
both trucks would be considered 3/4 tons both would be six volt negative ground. being Canadian GMCs they ar probably powered by Chevrolet engines the 48 by a babbitt bearinged 216 and the 53 by a 235 which may be a precision bearinged engine, hope that helps.

Hy Biermann, I made a mistake in what I told you yesturday, your s/n 8943404993 would be a 1ton not a 3/4ton
