Hello, I am new to this forum and need some help with several unclear issues. I have searched around a little, but can not come up with answers.

I have two GMC pickup trucks that I will be starting to restore this summer, one at the time.

Questions: Does anyone know the year of production, the electrical system 12 or 6 vdc, engine size?

one is a Model 9424, serial # 3942407811, engine XL692301, trim 394, body 258, paint 341.

The other is Model 9434, serial # 8943404993, engine X256774, trim 394, body 361, paint 831.

Both have standard transmissions, how hard is it to rebuild thus? Parts are available for the drive train?

Hope for your answers, with kind regards,

Joerg K.

Well, it gets a little bit confusing when talking about Canadian GMCs. In the states GMC went from a 6 volt positive ground to 12 volt negative ground in 1956. Earlier models were 6 volt positive ground, while chevy trucks were 6 volt negative ground. GMC also put different engines in the Canadian trucks. Most likely the 49 would have a 216 chevy engine from the factory, not the 228 GMC motor that was standard in the states.

Welcome to the Bolt

John

Hy Biermann,
3942407811
3 = 1953
9424 = GMC pickup delivery, 5800lbs. g.v.w. 125 1/4" wheelbase
07811 = regular production number
8943404993
8 = 1948 or 58, if the two trucks look alike then it is a 1948
9434 = GMC pickup delivery, 8800 lbs. g.v.w. 137" wheelbase
04993 = regular production number
both trucks would be considered 3/4 tons both would be six volt negative ground. being Canadian GMCs they ar probably powered by Chevrolet engines the 48 by a babbitt bearinged 216 and the 53 by a 235 which may be a precision bearinged engine, hope that helps.

Hello John & 3B,

Thank you for your help. I will make some pic's, both trucks are sitting side by side, not to get lonely.

I have printed your replies and will go at the units today and measure them up.

Cheers, happy easter,

Joerg

Right big---,

48 & 53 by what I found out since posting my topic. Do I need to change my topic to GMC 48 & 53 to conform?

Best wishes,

Joerg

Nah. You can change the topic in your next thread if you like. Welcome home, Joerg. Those are real trucks you have there, by the way. Take a look at this: it lives in my driveway, and sometimes goes to work: this is what two tons of old treated timber looks like in the box, and this is how she rides, maxed out. Nice truck hotshoe 36,

see you have some Kenie's too.

What did you all do to the truck, oh, nice rims & tires.

Did you get it repainted or is that still the original?

Cheers, will look for you when I go through Surrey next time, but that town is getting so big that it is hard to see you I guess,

Joerg K.
