Anyone have an old motors or chilton manual that you can tell me the 1969 292ci L6 tune up specs?

Mainly need point dwell?
or Point gap

And timing degrees?

Recommended plugs?

Engine came out of a c50 dump truck so I don't have any of the poop on it.

Thanks.

According to my '65 shop manual for 292 which I'd imagine there's not much change if any for '69, dwell is 31-34 degrees, point gap for new is .019, .016 for used. Timing is 4 BTDC although my 292 never seemed too happy at 4 when it was stock. It seemed to run better in the neighborhood of 6-8 BTDC. Spark plugs are listed as AC C42N. I've been running AC 44's for a while that seem to be good. Gap is .035 with a torque of 20-25 ft. lbs. Hope this helps. -David

I finally got around to looking in my MoToR Manual, and Mugsy has all the measurements correct. The book says CR44N for the plugs in '69 rather than C42N, though.

I don't think you have an auto trans, but if you did you'd want to set the timing to TDC rather than 4 degrees before, with the distributor vacuum hose disconnected and plugged in either case.

Hot idle speed 700 rpm for auto trans, 550 for manual.

Don't be afraid to play with the initial timing. The factory specs are for strict compliance with smog regs. I'd try more initial timing (higher number of degrees before TDC)and see how the motor responds.

Thanks mucho boiz - Its got the sm420 granny gear first 4 speed. So 550 will be it when I get the thing checked out. I believe I have a new set of points and condesor so probably slap those buggers in and when they play out in a few years, go electronic.
