Does anybody have a lead or source where I might find a shop or owners manual for a 1926 G.M.C. 1 ton. I know it's a pretty rare bird and I've been checking eBay, etc for months with no luck.

I also need to decode the engine serial number as I am not even sure if it is a Pontiac or Olds 6. It runs, drives and stops but, my fuel pump leaks (I need one of those too).

Have you tried the GMC site? I have enclosed a link to it. I Sure don't want to scare anyone from the Stovebolt but for your old rig you might find more info there.

I've looked over that site. His info doesn't go back that far. Anything else? I'm constantly on eBay looking. And I have a post on the A.A.C.A., Have also contacted the V.C.C.A. but, no luck thus far.

Be sure to specify the year of your car or truck not the model. They will ask you for the serial number of your car or truck so please have it handy if you know what it is. The serial # should be located on a name plate on the dash it should be a serise M or R.
The 26 was listed as a Superior model Utility Express from 1922 through the 1927 model year. The Utility Express were sold as a chassis/cowl only which included the chassis with engine, transmission and the fron sheet metal which was comprised of the hood front fenders, grille and headlights. It's instrument panel, steering wheel, foot pedals and shift lever which were exactly the same as the cars. The customer was expected to provide his own cap and body. Most truck buyers pruchased bodies and cabs from an outside independent body company. The engine was a 171 cu. overhead valve 4 cyl engine. This engine developed 21.7 SAE horsepower and lated through the 1928 model year.

Stingray, The 1926 GMC one ton was a K-16 and was basically the same truck from 1923 to 1926. My literture has the engine as a GMC 4cyl with bore of 3 1/2 and a stroke of 5 1/2. The serial number should be on the left hand spring horn ram and the engine number on the left side of crank case. Serial numbers for 1926 were K-1626043 and up. Only 2801 were made.

I have a G.M.C. not a Chevy so, it wouldn't be the same. It is titled as a stake body K-11 1 ton. It has an enclosed cab, 4 wheel (mechanical) brakes, steel 20" demountable wheels (Chevy still had wood spokes), It has a 6 cyl F head engine of either Pontiac or Olds origin. That's what I am trying to verify. Which engine I have. There was no such thing as a G.M.C. engine until the late 30's they used either one of the above (or so I have been told). Serial # is 6713.

If I'm not mistaken (and I could be) I think that engine is an Oldsmobile. I'll have to check one of my giude books to confirm what would have been used. I do know that GMC used engines manufactured by Northway, which was the engine plant that did the early Olds and Cadillac engines.

Longbox is correct in that GMC used engines from Northway for the 4 cyl engines. GMC never used a K-11 designation, but did have a T-11 model. They were built between 1927 and 1931. Initially they used a 186 cu.in. Pontiac six that got enlarged to 200 cu.in. in 1930. Pontiac engines were used in the light trucks until 1935, then GMC used Oldsmobile engines.

My 1928 GMC T-19 has a split head pontiac engine. It was painted close to the color olive green of the 39-46 228 GMC's. Good luck on finding anything on this truck.

Thanks for chiming in on this one. I've got a post over on the A.A.C.A. that may be yielding some clues. It's looking like I have a Pontiac 6. Split head. We're trying to determine the year. It also looks like either the engine got swapped out for one a few years newer at some point or, it was retitled?
gmcprince would you send me a pix of your '28?? re: your comment I take it you've not found much for yours either.........sorry for the confusion it's not a "K" anything.just a typo.

I believe fellow Stovebolter "* 31,32,33" is very knowledgeable on these vintage models. You may send him a PM and see if he has any information to share. My brother in-law Terry "27 Capitol" also might have some ideas on where, or who else to try.
