For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 15 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 15 | I found four websites that claim to address the needs for antique truck radios, but they're all the same chinese garbage. For example check out this 54 GMC Radio. Anybody know where I can find a real 54 GMC truck radio - tubes and all? | | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 | I don't know if I would call that "Chinese garbage" but offered new these days are modern radios that look fairly authentic when they are installed. This is definitely the case for the 47 to 53 truck radio.
Now if you want an original radio, they are not generally offered in quantity because they haven't been made for years. Probably what you need to do is contact one of the vendors that offers restoration services and see if they have one. There is one vendor that has radio hints, in the tech section. You could also look to buy one and have it restored. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 5,152 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 5,152 | Scout I know where there is one '54 GMC radio located in the Seattle metro. Contact me directly and I'll give you the details.

He has a radio for a 54 Chevy. It should be the same. All you would have to do is get a new sticker for the display and BAM! you have a GMC radio. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 5,152 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Oct 2003 Posts: 5,152 | My understanding is that on the tube type radios polarity does not matter at all. I've not tested that, and haven't asked anyone who would really know... Click here for pictures of a '54 - '55 1st GMC radio. These are NOT dial-up friendly pictures, but are high res shots I took when someone was interested in my GMC radio.

The only hitch is when the vibrator is replaced with an electronic model. The elctronic replacements are polarity specific.
