Spanky will have the definitive answer, but, my guess is that if it the same as used on a 54/55 2-ton COE, it's an Eaton 2-speed rear-end with vacuum-assisted shifter.

Tim, micron, The Chevrolet's from this era had Timken 2 spd. rear axles. I've got one in a '55 1st series Chevy COE,rolling chassis, out back.

Spanky,

Did the 54/55 GMC 350 have an Eaton 2 speed?

Tim, The GMC's utilized the Eaton 1350 2 spd.(which is almost identical to the splined flange Timken 2 spd.Chevy used)& the Eaton 16600, (which used the bolted flange).

Tim's 350 has a splined flange two speed. I pulled the caps off, slid the axles out, and reinstalled the caps to tow it home.

O.K., That would be the Eaton 1350, for Tim's COE. microns, should be the Timken 2 spd.

Micron -- not to change the subject .. in your web shots, I'm curious about your GMC that you pulled the COE with -- I see it's been upgraded to newer wheels and tires -- what size wheels and tires are on it?

Thanks,
John

That's Grant's (HeavyHauler) GMC, and yes he has new 22.5" wheels with 10 lugs on 8.75". I believe he is running 10R22.5 tires.
