Won't get above 30 mph. I'm thinking it must be bad, so I put the old #2 unit back in after cleaning and oiling and it won't get above 30 either. Now I'm thinking that the cable must be the culprit, even though it is new and greased. Is it possible that the end might be loose and not staked properly, allowing it to slip at a certain rpm? Am planning on pulling the cable this afternoon. Have to go shopping first and will pick up a universal cable repair from my FLAPS. Any ideas or comments? If the hole gets rounded-out, it won't turn the cable the right speed. It's also possible for the square shank on either end of the cable to wear to the point that it slips. I always replace both the inner cable and the housing as a unit, as internal roughness in an old housing can cause erratic cable speed, speedo needle shudder, etc.

I noticed that my cable end that screws into the speedo head wobbles as it turns. Apparently it is not concentric or aligned with the cable axis.
