I did a search but couldn't find what I'm looking for. I have a 63 c10 v8 3spd on the tree. I'm looking for the easiest 4 spd swap. I'm not to bright so please make it simple. I would like to have sycronized. The trucks rear seems to be geared high... If theres a step by step out there let me know. Would a late model 2wd truck bolt up? Thanks KevinK

The regular 4 speed would not solve the problem. All trans. are geared 1 to 1 in high gear unless it has an o.drive. The best swap is a 5 speed from a mid 80,s S-10 2 wheel drive. The o-drive trans from 55-64 chev. pickups & cars is another option. There was an o-drive 4 speed used in the mid 80.s but they are pretty rare. There is a lot of info on this in the Tech section & search the archives.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

Not sure if I understand your question. What do you mean by the truck is geared high?

If the engine is racing at freeway speeds, lets say 3400 RPM, than you would have low gearing. If the engine was spinning lets say 2000 RPM, you would have high gearing.

Low gearing is better for towing, high gearing in better for economy. Which are you trying to get?

I think a little explanation is in order here. When a truck has "gearing" or a rearend ratio that results in an rpm that is too high while driving, it is said that the ratio is too low. The description is opposite for the opposite condition.
