For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 23 Apprentice | | Apprentice Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 23 | Could anyone come up with the distance from the bottom of the frame under the cab to the pavement of a stock height 56 TF 1/2 ton? I'm working on a 56 3/4 ton that will have a 79 Firebird front subframe and rear end from the same car.
I bought the 56 as a basket case and have no way of establishing the 'normal original' ride height.
Any help or ideas appreciated.

With the front clip you're planning to use, stock hight won't be easy to acheive, unless you offset the front stub to compenasate. The axle centerline is much higher on the Firebird frame than it is on a truck frame.

My 58 Burb is right in line with what Longbox55 has. Before changing springs it measured 17.5 inches with fairly tall 235/75/15 tires. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 23 Apprentice | | Apprentice Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 23 | Thanks for the replies and the info. My plan is to use a 2" spacer between the bottom of the TF frame and the rear horns of the TA subframe. Should look something like this: (not mine) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v246/rbachman/FiftySix%20Chevy%20PU/TF80TAClip.jpgIt appears the top of the TF frame is flush with the top of the TA subframe.
