How do I add fluid, what type of fluid would I add and is it a difficult problem to fix?

#38400 12/06/2004 6:41 PM | Joined: Dec 2000 Posts: 506 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2000 Posts: 506 | Somewhere on the rear is a fill plug. If its the older rear it on the rear cover. Newer GM rear it will be on the pass side about 10:00 o 'clock maybe covered in dirt and grease. Dig around you'll find it. Its the seal that is leaking. If you're lucky its just because you haven't driven it enough to keep the seal expanded. Either way its a good time check it by pulling the plug sticking in your finger and see if you can touch the gear lube. If you can't go buy the correct gear lube for your year rear. 80w90 will work for most except the heaver duty trucks. If you have a clean rear I would recommend 80w90 Synthetic. Be good to your rear and drive it.

You probably will have to put a pinion seal in it. If you have mechanical expertise you can do it yourself. Get a good book or post it & me or another bolter will give blow by blow directoins.

It is the pinion seal that is leaking. I don't drive her in the winter she is stored in the garage. So I will dig around and find the plug and get that seal changed. I will attempt to research and do it myself. If I need help I know where to go that is for sure.
