For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 | In the April issue of Rod and Custom there is an article on an electric power steering assist system now available. It is very pricey but the concept is very interesting. A length is cut out of the steering column and the shaft of the unit becomes part of the steering column. Of course there are anchors and supports etc. I guess it senses applied torque and the motor inside reacts accordingly. The characteristics can be tweaked with a computer. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2008 Posts: 9 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Feb 2008 Posts: 9 | fyi, the older toyota mr2's (91-95) have electric power steering pumps. they are nice and small and plentiful at junkyards | | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,115 | This is fairly new technology and there is no pump, no hydraulics involved. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 11 Apprentice | | Apprentice Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 11 | my '07 chevy HHR has electric power steering. it works great.
