guys what size is this truck? what kind of motor would have been in it?, 248,270,302 thanks pic's in my webshots.

anybody?

Very hard to tell by the pictures, but of it has ten lug rear wheels and five lug fronts then chances are it is a 1.5 ton.

I think you have the right idea on the engine sizes, 270 would be my guess, but I know next to nothing about GMC trucks and trucks newer than 54...

What more do you know about it?

haven't seen it except those pic's and all i know is if it's not picked up by 1:30 saturday its mine and it was running when it was parked, even has title. at least this one is local, HevyHauler may be working sunday!

Pix are real small, but that front wheel looks to be a 10 bolt pattern. Looks like a bit longer frame than my 2-ton 370, but then again it's got a lower side on the dump box than my truck too.
The manual shows that the heavier trucks used the Budd, stud centered wheels, while lighter trucks used hub centered wheels. 6 & 10 bolt patterns respectively, but it's not terribly clear.


In the 55-59 truck manual it says that there were three engines, the 270 & 302 6's, and a 347 V8. I'd bet that truck has the 270, but I'd hope for a 302 myself since my expereince finding 270 parts has been less than fun.

So you'll let us know and post more pictures? Even a 270 is a great motor, I love mine.

If its a 347 use the old parts to dress a Pontiac 455 to look like an 50's motor. Classic look, huge torqe.

just talked to the owner of the truck and he said it was a V-8 so it sounds like it is a 347. does that motor have the same bolt pattern as a 60' pontiac 389?. the reason i ask is i have a dead 60 pontiac and if motor was good that might be a good home for the 347.

Sweet! Another GMC & Pontiac person in my neck of the woods. I haven't done much research into all the different options so I have no clue what you have, but it looks like a fun project.

update on the dump truck also new pic's on my webshots. the data plate reads: 303 8 C X 1011 180HP AT 4400 RPM GROSS 156HP AT 3500 NET 14,000 22,000. going to see about getting it home sunday evening. it turns over by hand real freely so it will probably run. the guy i'm getting it from says his dad drove it to the spot where it is. has rust and dents but the price is right FREE! with title.

Congrats Greg! I think a 347 bolts right up where a 389 once sat.

just found out in 56 they had a 316,347 came out in 57' it' coming home sunday evening, Hevy Hauler is moving it for me. this one is less than 10 miles down the road thank god! that last trip made me wish i was 17 years old and feel like i was 100!

Steve he has posted more pic's on his web shots already the 316 is a Pontiac V8 the predecessor to the 347. I am sure we will take more pictures of the hauling also.

well the pickup date for the dump truck looks like monday so i will post some picks monday evening when it arrives home.

well work has me too busy so i passed the truck onto HevyHauler, he should be picking it up today. sure hated too pass but i found some other trucks and have a handful in oregon to look at. like i really need another ....

Thanks Greg the 56 GMC is home now it was a lot shorter than your 54 COE road nice on the trailer in fact it is still on there.

It is a 1 1/2 ton and has 10 lug on 7 1/4 hub piloted with 5 1/4 center bore 22.5" wheels and 9.00 X 22.5 tires

The rear end looks like the same one that is in my 71 one ton dulie every thing is certainly a lot lighter duty than my tow ton trucks.

grant,you got that thing fired off yet? i'm hoping to take a ride soon.

Not yet it is getting spark now but needs plugs the buget dosen't alow right now so I have been doing with it is tinkering
