I've read that the fuel gauge needs to be grounded. What's the best way to ground the fuel gauge?

Your profile says you have a '53 rig. If this is correct the gauge case itself grounds the gauge in the dash assembly. No further wire or bonding would be necessary.

This isn't necessarily true with the tank and sending unit though. These must have a ground...somehow, whether it be through casual contact between the tank and the body, or through a wire from sending unit mounting screw to a good frame or body ground.

I was having lots of problems with the fuel gauge/sender on my 51 half ton. I ended up going to NAPA and getting a two conductor wire (black and red) with a gray outer sheath. The red wire was my sender wire and the black wire was the ground wire. I used a star washer to make sure I had a good connection at the sender and terminated the other end on the gauge cluster.

I now have a fuel gauge that reads accurately and consistantly.
