I am in the middle of installing a painless wiring harness, and also an electric fan with a thermo switch. The fan relay is wired to run on its own however there is a wire on the painless that hooks up to fan relay. my question is do they mean the grey wire on the switch or the orange wire marked ignition? thanks for any help here. Also can I run the ignition wire on the relay to the s terminal on my starter? Is the s hot only when the key is on or only while held to start position?

I don't know about your painless harness or the wire colors, but am pretty sure that your 'S' terminal is only energized when the key is in START...this pulls the solenoid in and is de-energized when the key is released to RUN.

I,m not familiar with those colors either but you need a wire from the accessory side of the ign. switch to the thermal switch. You can probably pick it up off the fuse panel if it,s not in the haeness. It needs to go through a fuse & 18 gauge is adicate. You need a hot wire to the relay from a junction block or bat. cable term on the starter. It should be 12 gauge & have a fuseable link or breaker. The other wire on the therm. switch goes to the relay & the wire from the fan motor goes to the relay. There should be a ground on the relay. There might be another wire to turn it on if you have A/C.
