| | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 31 Apprentice | | Apprentice Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 31 | I just completed the restoration of my '49 grille and it was one of the easiest and most enjoyable parts of this truck project so far.I was tempted to just buy a repro grille but decided to just take my time and redo my original painted grille.I used a 3/8 ball nose bit in my die grinder to remove all the rivits then numbered all the pieces.Had to weld a few pin holes then filled some surface pits,primed with epoxy and painted.I ordered the grille fastener kit from Jim Carter and it went back together with no problem and looks great.I guess it would be much cheaper to order a chrome grille than try to restore and rechrome an original but mine was painted and thats what I went back with.To anyone at this stage I say don't be intimidated about fixing your original grille. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 120 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jun 2007 Posts: 120 | Congrats, Chip. My grill has been blasted and primed. I want to chrome the outside pieces and paint a cream the inside pieces. I too have some pinholes that need repair. I have bought the pkg of grill fasteners so if I decide to DMS I'll be prepared. I pledge to (if I do decide to DMS) take pictures and try to make a documentary of the whole experience. The rest of you guys, do the same if you restore your grill.
