I have '63 Chevrolet truck with a 350/350 combo. I just noticed the previous owner had not connected the passing gear to the carb.
1 question is why would he leave it like this?
2nd question is how do I correct it?

He didn,t want to go through the extra effort to hook up the cable. He probably just downshifted with the gear selector. You need to hook the cable to the carb or linkage to pull on it at full throttle. It depends on what carb you have. You can find brackets at the salvage yard for Q-jet carbs. If you have a different carp you could modify the Q-jet bracket or get a custom one from a hot rod supplier.

Those are the details that come at the end of a engine swap and unless he had all the brackets and cables/linkage it would be a easy task to save for the rainy day that never comes!
You can live without the passing gear if need be. Unless you can fab the brackets or buy them from a supplier then you will have to hit the junkyards for something that will work.
Your rig must have a carbureted engine...a four barrel carb! My setup had a plastic sheathed cable from tranny to carb that actuated the kickdown.
Your post implies your cable is installed in the transmission and is OK. You will need a bracket on the intake manifold and the proper linkage or attachment point on the carburetor.
This isn't very specific info so maybe others will be along with more help.

I did this once before kind of homemade style but it worked pretty good. Also summit racing has all kinds of parts for your carb. part # HLY-20-45 is a kickdown bracket set that links to the cable on your th350 and its less than 12 bucks. part HLY-20-40 is the kickdown stud that mates the two for about 7 bucks. good luck, and I like your 51! | | |
