Can someone tell me on a 216, how to take out the copper oil line that comes from the block, and feeds oil up to the rocker arms / shaft? The line looks ok, but someone has dammaged the brass fitting that threads the line into the block. I tried to take it loose, but the line just turns and won't come out. Also, same for the smaller line on the left side of the block. Thanks for any advice. KT -------------------------- 1949 3/4 ton. 1950 1/2 ton

It is replaced complete as a unit. If you are lucky you can reuse the brass fittings , otherwise try your local NAPA or Jim Carter for the fittings .

Could someone post a picture of what tube you're talking about. I've just finished putting a 216 in my 46 1/2 ton, and I don't have lines out of both sides of the block. Come to think of it, on the old motor either. I'm getting concerned now though, as the one line I do have was a brass fitting, and I had to replumb the line as it wouldn't clear the exhaust. It took some work to get it out of the block, but it came out with the brass fitting. Now, I'm wondering if I might have broken something off in there? I have an oil leak around the fitting, when the motor's running, but I thought it was merely needing to tighten up the new fittings. I'm going to have to take the manifold off to get to them, and at that point, it won't be "runnable" until I put them back on. I sure don't want to have to take all of this stuff apart multiple times. Thanks for any information you can share.

On these old 216s, down on the driver's side of the block, there is a small plate held on by several bolts. Right behind that there is a small tube that somes out of a fitting, loops around and goes back into the block.(I think that I have a picture of that somewhere too.)The tube actually goes through the water jacket and comes out the other side underneath the side cover. From there the feed goes up and connects to the rocker arm

I'd be very curious to see that, because I think I may have a major problem now. I thought I had merely disconnected the plumbing on the side of the block and simply needed to replumb it. Now it seems as though I might have broken that tubing when I pulled it out, and will have to tear something else down to replace it. Do you or someone else know how difficult this process might be. Also, is it plumbed the same way on all 216's? The box on the side of the block and the routing of the tubing on 46 block I pulled out of the truck looks considerably different than the 39 block I put back in. Am I as hosed as it sounds like I may be? Please please say it isn't so...

I got it out tonight. I will try to locate one. Truckernix, I didn't know it was a special line. I was hoping I could just get the copper line, and the fittings and ferrels. I will check with Chevs of the 40's! Thanks again all! KT -------------------------- 1949 3/4 ton. 1950 1/2 ton

That is not the part that we are talking about but it is very interesting to look at. For anyone that has not seen the inside of one of these oil pans, those nozzles actually fit down inside the troughs used by the dippers.

I was able to replumb the oil lines this weekend. Wasn't near as difficult as what I dreaded it might be. Am working to resolve some clearance issues with my recently split manifold now, and then off to the exhaust shop and down the road. At least that is my hopes. Thanks again for the help!
