The composition-type, or the "no retorque" gaskets already have a sealer built in. The best head gasket sealer I've found is a brush-on liquid, Permatex Super 300. It's a thick, almost black liquid, not the runny 3D type. It was developed for use with parts exposed to aviation gasoline back during WW II. Hard to find, but good stuff! Jerry

Seems to work good, last long time. And improve sealing too.

Just torque it to spec. & you shouldn't have a problem.

| | | | | Joined: Feb 2008 Posts: 70 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Feb 2008 Posts: 70 | Hot rod dad....i see your holding a 68 corvette...i started my 68 corvette collection 20 years ago.......ive aquired 4 over the years.....3- 427-435 tripower and 1 427-400.....they are getting harder to find these days and thank god the 68 was my favorite year and not the 67.......the 68 was also the most narrow out of all the corvettes...out of all my antique autos the 68s are my favorite.....nice sunny day pull the top down and cruse down the road.........but the trip is short because of the price of aviation fuel......i take a drive to the local resturant and drive back and ive used 20 bucks worth of fuel...and thats just taking it easy....well thank you all for the information on the gasket......your input is always appreicated | | |
