recnetly bought an airless/small commercial stand alone paint system with the 25' hose and gun etc. Why is it that automotive paint wont work in these units that come out at 1500psi vs the 90 that air guns use?

The paint in automotive is designed to be very thin when sprayed so as to atomize and flow out. the house paint on the other hand is thick and does not to atomize the way auto paint does.Short simple awnser.
