Hello everyone!

I have been lurking for about a year now and finally decided to join as I will actaully begin my restoration project of our truck that a friend gave to us.

It is a 1951 3100 1/2ton (20JPB3159)Feb 1951. I think it has a 235 although I am not exactly positive. More on that as I get into it. It does have a Manual trans on the floor with a PTO as well. The story I have on the truck is that originally belonged to the SanDiego School District and they are the ones that ordered it with the PTO. It is mostly intact, with a little cab rust on the pass right front side wall below the dash, a bad dent in the left rear fender. Other than that it looks like it is mostly complete. It is missing the original rear bumper. This truck needs a ton of work but I am looking forward to it!

I have learned a great deal from all of you Stove-Bolter's in the past 6 months just by reading the forum and website. I really look forward to getting some more advice from people that "have been there and done it" and will be happy to share this project with you all!

I will snap some pics of the truck in the AM.

The truck was on the road in 1990 but has been sitting ever since...my hope is that it will start once I go through the
steps to get it ready.

Thanks for the great website and forum!

Welcome to the Bolt, sierra51. Mine is a '51 half-ton too but no PTO. Yours sounds like it's in pretty good shape... let's see those pictures.

Rich,

Yea, it looks like a 216 but don't go by the bolts holding the valve cover on... you can modify a 235 quite easily to use the two bolts on top to hold the valve cover on. There are distinct features on a 216 like the pushrod cover on the right side. On a 216 it goes up to and around the spark plugs.

Your valve cover is an Offenhauser or Wayne?

Start gathering books and catalogs and make yourself familiar with your truck before you buy anything. You're about to embark on a long and rewarding journey fixing up your truck. Don't get discouraged... expect things to go wrong at every turn, but that's part of the "joy"... figuring out how to make things work.

Don't believe the crap in the parts catalogs, for the most part there is nothing that fits perfectly and if they say it "bolts on in a couple hours", or "comes with detailed instructions" you know you're in trouble. As much as they would like you to think otherwise, it still takes skill, creativity and determination to restore an AD truck.

Hey Woody,

Valve cover is an Offenhauser...is that good?

I love "comes with detailed instructions"...I just love that! I run across that often in my line of work.

Thanks for the advice and appreciate the tips!
