One side hase a steel roller and the other side has plate. You thread the fender between apply preassure and slide the roller over the star dent till it is smooth. I had a picture one time of the original but can't find it. If you need one I can take a picture of mine and send it to you.

Like everyone else has said,,its a big "C" clamp lookin thing,,but i seem to remember it being called a "bullseye". Maybe google "bullseye dent remover"? Ill check some of my old magazines, as i remember them being adv. in there also. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 | The first thing that comes to my mind is a rolling mill, that is, stretched metal and nice little oil cans where the ding was. I'd like to here the thoughts from some of the real bodymen out there. Denny Graham Sandwich, IL

I'd like to here the thoughts from some of the real bodymen out there. "Oil-canning" isn't something you're likely to run into with vehicles like our old trucks except places like the roof. You need a pretty large expanse of relatively flat/thin sheetmetal to make an oil can. I'm not quite sure what this tool is they're referring to but it sounds like one of those things that looks like an old Ice block lifter with a large washer-like thing on one part and a body pick on the other that hits directly in the center of the hole in the "washer". You position the washer thing right over the dent and start tapping the pick end to push the dent out, but then you have to metal finish. It's just a contraption to aid the bump man in hitting the exact spot with the pick. It's near impossible to do that with a pick hammer without missing the exact spot a couple times. There may be modern variations on this tool that I'm not aware of but the principal is the same... unless I'm completely missing the idea. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 9,671 | From their description Woody it sounded to me like it had a roller on one side and an anvil on the other. The picks your describing are sold by Eastwood and a bunch of other body shop suppliers have them also. Agree with ya on hand pickin' you better have a whole bunch of experience and hand coordination or your gonna just create more dings than you had in the first place. Most all new comers to metal working think you really have to smack the metal hard to move it and in reality it don't take a whole lot to move it back in place, usually just a few gentle taps.
