The way they are currently installed, the engine can travel upwards, and I'm thinking that on a sever enough bump, the engine could jump out of the lower mount!
Is this the correct way for these to be installed?

Trust me, they hold it down- I had a heck of a time getting mine out. The rubber had decayed and the bolt sunk down in.

Hope I'm not out of line. Your name denotes a GMC. Are you sure you have a 216? Most are 228's and a different size physically than a Chevrolet I6. Just a thought... Good luck !

Anyways, the replacement is definately a 235 -
The bell housing off of the 216(?) fits right on to the 235 - therefore using the same engine mounts.
In regards to the bolting down of the mounts, I cannot figure out how to bolt through the two peices. One bolts to the frame and the other to the engine with no way to join them other than one fitting around the other like a 3/4 sleeve.
Actually, What I really need is a picture!

They used Chev engines and chassis. The 216 they used looks like a 235 on the outside, small sidecover, larger manifold, but it had the stroke and bore of a 216. I have mine apart right now and I have been coming across all these interesting details! | | |

The top of frame has the big part that bolts to side of housing setting right on the x-over inline with holes. The second peice goes underneath and fits into the x-over and bolt goes thru it, has big washer then nut. This way you have rubber on top and bottom. Maybe, I'm thinking of my old Firds, hmmmmm! Some later year 235's needed a slanted x-over and had slanted ears on the b/house to match. The earlier ones had flatter x-over and b/house was straitht up and down. Clear as Mudd? You need to get a shop manual if you don't have one. Should be pix in it of the mounts. Get a Chevy manual if Chev engines in Canadian trucks. What ever you find, I'm thinking you dont have the mounts on right, or they are bolted up now and need to be seprated and bolted thru the x-over. They ARE bolted down, don't just set there.

The shop manual I have doesn't show anything of the engine mounts, but I've been playing around with the mounts and I'll be able to figure it out.
Thanks for the help
