so i have always been under the impression that at least the 250 and 292 shared a common head. i am rebuilding a 1963(first year) 292 that needs a cylinder head (long story). i found a 250 head at jalopy jungle, the local "you pull it" yard, that would serve as a perfect candidate for a rebuild. any problems with putting this onto my 292?

the local machine guy was telling me the early 292's are unique and cannot share a 250 head, or a later 292 head for that matter.

anyone?

They can be interchanged but the 292 has better stuff in the valves. They use sodium filled exhaust valves with rotators. The early ones didn,t have the outlet in the head for the heat gauge/light sender. I worked on them for 40 years & i don,t know of anything different that you couldnot exchange them. If you are going to use it for light duty the 250 valves are plenty good. Most reman. engines will have the light duty valves. Only torque the driver side front head bolt to 85 ft. lbs. 95 on the rest. They had some cracking problems in that area & came out with a revised specs.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.
