Although my engine reman shop assured me that they had sent my lifters out for refurbishment I discovered today that the faces are a plane surface. When I put two together there is a solid mating surface between them.
Vintage Auto Parts states that they can regrind lifters to original specs.

The convex surface is waht causes the lifter to rotate as the engine runs, which actually helps decrease the overall wear. This goes for solid lifters, too. Do you have a true surface to check them on, like a flat plate of glass? If they are truly flat, then the whoever "refurbished" them did not do the job correctly.
