i was going to order some tune up parts but was thinking was our truck offered with the 235 as an option or has someone installed one later. the gentleman i bought it from did not mention anything and thought it was pretty much in original shape except it was blue now green

Did a search on Google and apparently it was available. I know it was for the big 'Bolts but not sure for the 1-ton and smaller. Now, I thought that the 235 was supposed to be blue.

I believe the 235 was available in the larger 'bolts going back to the early '40s. The one in your truck looks to be a later engine, not the 235 "babbit pounder" that was original, but a full pressure 235, could even be a 261.

If memory serves correctly, the passenger car 235's were blue, the truck engines were gray.

Someone will surely come along and correct any misinformation I've given here.

To know for sure, get the engine serial number from the pad behind the distributor. List it here and someone will probably decode it for you.

Here are some distinguishing characteristics of 1929-1962 Chevrolet engines. Casting numbers, serial numbers, and side/valve covers are quite helpful in identifying an engine.
