Give me the number cast on the left rear of the block, and date code (it should also be on the rear of the block- a number like B247) and the numbers and letters on the front of the motor below the right cylinder head.

Hey Budd, looks like a 305 or 351 GMC V6. They look similar to the old Chevy 348-409 engines, but have no related parts. That also looks like a van front end that someone stuck under there. It's too wide for the frame. Hope that helps.

1961 GMC Apache 10 stepside need motor info
A good friend gave me this truck since I have always wanted to have an old GMC and be able to restore it from the ground up. Any info will be a great help.
I couldnt locate a VIN number but I found the plate that has a serial number 1002CN8353A (GMC TRUCK AND COACH DIVISION PONTIAC, MICHIGAN) Is the serial number considered the VIN? The numbers I found on the motor are 6-29-60 2377855 I think I was told it was a 289 V-6???
