For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 85 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 85 | I know this gets ask almost to much, but I tried searching and couldn't find anything.A friend of mine is getting a 54 chevy 1/2 ton pickup,5 window, short bed I think, and he said there was somthing different about the bed on it,only made one year?Body is fare but will need work, the whole truck is there, engine, 4 speed floor shift tranny, with the remnents of a three on the tree, bad thing is no title. What it is,is he offered it to me ,and i'm thinking of trying to get it for my dad.He hasn't got it home yet so I haven't even seen it yet but what he was telling me of it the truck sounds like it isn't a rust bucket. What I would like to know is what these trucks go for unrestored,so I have a idea what to offer him for it. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2007 Posts: 18 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Nov 2007 Posts: 18 | The difference on a 54 bed is that the sides go straight up at the top rather than flared on previous years. Does it run? Its hard to say on price, there is quite a range. Ballpark $2000 to $4000 depending where you are in the US. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 2,644 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 2,644 | If you had photos that would help. Prices depend on location, condition, and buyer/seller motivation. | | | | | | Houston54 Unregistered | | Houston54 Unregistered | No title, not running, total restore needed including cancer repair = $500
No title, running but not driveable, total restore needed including rear cab corner replacement = $800
Title, running but not driveable, total restore needed body in decent shape with little to no cancer and minimal dents = $1,000
Title, running and driveable, body in good shape = $1,500 & up
The 54-55.1 years are unique but not that rare in my opinion. Not as common as the other years of Advance Design trucks though. Certainly have some different character. | | | | | | Dave Giorgi Unregistered | | Dave Giorgi Unregistered | 48 one ton,
Welcome to the bolt!
I think it is an excellent and very admirable idea you have thinking to buy this for your Father. Nothing could be more rewarding then a Father and Son project. The time you two will spend together will be enjoyed. The memories you will be left with will last a lifetime. How can you put a price tag on that...you can't , its priceless.
However, back to reality and that being a project worthy of such undertaking. Take a lot of photos and post them here as there are several factors that will determing the appropiate value. Make yourself a list of things that need attention and how far you want to go on the restoration. If you are not able to performing the work yourself this can be extremely costly. Here are a few ideas of things to write down along with their condition:
Glass and regulators, gauges, wiring, engine and trans, body rust and older repairs. Frame, suspension, barkes and steering.
With this list you can get an approxiate value of the amount of work needed and a rough cost. Check out the above posted list from "HOUSTON 54"...Nodoubt he's done this before...LOL..If you feel comfortable with both, make an offer starting at your bottom line and work your way to what you feel is the most you are willing to pay.
GET BACK TO US WITH PIX. and the experts here can narrow it down on a dollar figure for you. You will find an overbundance of knowledgable, friendly, members here that will jump to the occasion to help. Plus I am sure now we all want to know about your project...we love the details and pix of the progress. Good luck in your quest and again welcome to the bolt.
Dave
