| | THANKS!
For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 11 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 11 | Hi folks.....on a routine trip to the beautiful town of St Albans to get more bits for my hard working MGB, I was passed by a truck that that left me completely amazed.......our roads in England are carpeted with millions of boring 'Euro-boxes' and anonymous white vans, and this American pick-up just stood out as a real stunner.
Later research proved it to be a 50's Chevy 5 window Stepside, resplendent in several shades of gray and rust.........
Love at first sight !
How hard are these trucks to come by in England, and are spares a real problem ?
Best wishes to you all........embryo stovebolter Phil

As for parts in general there are several good sources available. Visit the links link at the top of the page for vendors selling repop parts & keep an eye on eBay for used parts. Welcome to the 'bolt.

I was just in Luton and ran into a local who owns several American Classic cars and trucks. He mentioned he was a member of a car club in England that has exclusively Yankee rides. You might want to check for a local club. But here, you will find everything else regarding the Stovebolt of your dreams. Good luck and keep us informed of your pursuits. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 238 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 238 | Phil, I'm a Brit Stovebolter, IMHO you might find it cheaper to take a trip to the States to buy a truck and ship it back rather than buy in the UK where they tend to be quite expensive as they are fairly rare.
I imported a truck a few years ago from Pennylvania via Oklahoma. Some pictures of the truck are on my website (URL in my signature. My brother bought back his '36 truck from Texas after seeing an Advert on this site. Be aware though that the UK import duty is much higher on trucks and cars made after 1949, so it might be better to buy an earlier Stovebolt.
If you feel you have to have a right hand drive stovebolt, buy one from Australia, New Zealand or South Africa, I looked into doing this, but most of these trucks seem to have had a very hard life, I don't find that the fact my truck is LHD is a real problem on UK roads.
Good luck with your search.

Check out a couple of classic magazines like Old Glory for clubs its mostly steam tractors but they seem to be involved with everything old. There's plenty of club info, cruise dates, spares, dealers and great cars and trucks,(even modern ones, BARF) I know a couple of guys in the Reading area that have AD trucks, not too many up in this neck of the woods though, I think the Salty roads kills 'em! As far as spares go, probably as easy to get as your MG, parts suppliers in abundance. (anyone ever seen a bun dance?? just wonderin') I get most of mine from LMC in Kansas and, as yet, have had no problems with supply. Get a truck, go on, you know you want one! cheers from Bonnie (wet) Scotland Pete.
Ooh, it's dark in here!
