Have you ever done ANY metal work? If the answer is NO then doing a top chop is not the place the start. You WILL stand a very good chance of ruining your truck. There is more to doing a chop than cutting out 3" of the side pillars. You will need to also cut the door moldings and have special glass cut which is more difficult on the 54 with the one-piece windshield as that glass is not cheap to begin with. It would be much easier in that area if you were using a 53 or older cab with the flat glass.
My suggestion is do not do it. | | | | | Joined: Oct 2004 Posts: 348 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2004 Posts: 348 | use two roofs so you only have one seam to weld less warpage dont overlap your metal when the truck sits in the sun the roof will get wavy on the non overlaped metal as the sun heat stretches the metal. The owner of that cab is going to get a big suprise! | | | | | Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 11 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Dec 2007 Posts: 11 | i had never did A CHOP TOP AND YES I DO HAV SOME METAL EXPERIANCE.YHANX ALOT FOR THE INFORMATION AND THANX FOR THE PICTURES | | | | | Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 576 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Mar 2005 Posts: 576 | interesting shop truck.....gsx455 my 2cents is 6"is way too much for an ad.the rear window ends up lookin like a tank slot. i personally like the look to where they cut out the whole rear window and leave it intact if i ever did one it would be that way......dave 1949 Chevrolet 3100 "When this thing hits 88 miles an hour, you're going to see some serious sh%t." -Doc Brown
