My brother called me today. Seems his 49 Chevy has seen better days. The old powerplant has bit the dust. I was wondering if there are any 6's from late model autos that will just bolt right in?

You are up late, but then so am I. The only bolt in 6 will be the 235 until 1962. In 1963 Chevy went to the 230/250 series motors.(different bellhousing pattern) Some later 235's even had the front motor mount plate, although the mounting holes weren't drilled (like the 235 I got out of a 1960 Chevy wagon). The 235's are cheap & easy to find. Other motors require welding in custom motor mounts or whole new subframe. I would go with a 235. Good luck.
