Hi Everyone,

I've recently acquired a 1966 C10 stepside with the 250 L6 pushing a Powerglide tranny. I've been using it as a daily driver and after properly setting the timing, I still had a hesitation when I accelerated. The acceleration problem has been slowly getting worse, so I decided to rebuild my carb since I suspected the accelerator pump was bad.

Well I've rebuilt it, now I just can seem to get it tuned properly. On a warm (70) degree day, I can get it to idle without choke after it warmed up, but as soon as I shift into Drive, it stalls out? Any ideas? Do I need to set my idle higher? Thanks.

Did you adjust your idle mixture? It may be too lean. Warm up engine, set to curb idle, and make sure timing and dwell are correct, then adjust idle mixture screw for highest vacuum if you have a gauge, or 1/2 turn out from highest idle speed if you don't. If idle changes more than 100 rpm readjust idle speed as necessary. Manual transmission has curb idle at about 500 rpm, it may be 750 or so with auto.

Isaac, if that is a Monojet a would simply pass the same advice to you that my father gave me. "Boy, throw that thing away and get a carburetor." Now he said that and at the time I was into making my truck all original, so I ignored him and spent $139 bucks on a remanufactured monojet. I was never happy with it. The reman just had a different set of problems. It was not an improvement really. Now I am running a Holley/Weber 5200 and couldn't be happier. If you plan to put any more scoot in the giddy-up it's not enough carb, but for a stock motor it as awesome.
