Okay guys I know this may be viewed as a dumb butt question, but how do you remove the draft tube from the engine. The only reference my manual makes to it is that it should be removed and cleaned. I getting ready to send block to shop for prep. I was under the imprssion that it just pushed into hole and the bracket bolt at the oil pan held in place (I have removed the bolt). I have soaked the crap out it with rust remover -- it stil doesn't budge. PLEASE HELP. Thanks

I just pulled mine out last weekend and "cleaned" and repainted it. You are correct. Once you remove the bolt down by the pan it should pull out. I used rust remover and penetrating oil on mine, but it eventually needed some tapping by my "persuader" before she budged. I'm righted handed so adjust accordingly. :-) Using my left hand I put constant upwards pressure on the tube (in other words I pulled like heck) while tapping the tube with my hammer. I started tapping at 12 O'clock, then moved to three, then six, then nine, then back to 12. It was stubborn but eventually I got her to rock loose. To clean it, I used an old farmer's/garage mechanic trick. I filled it with lamp oil and then set her on fire. She burned really slow and smokey for quite awhile. I then rinsed her out with gas, and then lit her again. For the coup de gras I sprayed her with a degreaser, washed her with soap, sanded her slightly and primed and painted her. She looks beauuutifull!

Since you are sending the block off, drop the oil pan and drive it out from the inside.
