I got my hands on a borg warner overdrive to go on my 54 , The part I am having trouble with is the transmission yoke . I am unable to locate one and dont know what is interchangable with this . It measures as 1 1/4 in diameter with 16 splines .
Thanks

The yoke should be the same as the std SM318 will work. Do you still have the original driveshaft from the '54? It should work.

What ratio is your "open rear end that a friend had in his t-bucket"? Is your Overdrive shift cover a 4 bolt or a seven bolt? Either way the overdrive is .70 so in my case thats .70 X 3.90 rear end = 2.73 rear ~70 mph @ 2000 RPM. You want to have a good power band for the terrain in which you will do most of your driving, in my case the piedmont foothills. Here's some information you may find useful. Specifically, the ENGINE RPM CALCULATOR. You can't change the overdrive so what you can change in your case is the tire height and rear end.

PS, you're going to love that overdrive man!

You can get a new yoke from Powertrain Specialties in Garden Grove, CA.

The rearend is a 4.11 non posi , I grabbed this knowing I could cruise at 2000-2300 at 65 mph . the 235 is pretty well warmed over I have milled the head to boost the compression and put a clifford cam in it, fenton headers and set of dual holly weber carbs on offy manifold . with that overdrive it will go faster than i want to go on the stock suspension . this trans has a 4 bolt side cover by the way
