My 51 GMC is coming right along with my painter doing a spectacular job on each piece until yesterday. When I took the doors over to him he just couldn't quit staring at them. He finally asked if the truck had been painted before, which the answer is "no" because I got the truck from the original owner and I knew the answer. When I asked why, he said that the edge of the doors(on the inside) should be the same color as the outside of the truck. Since mine was all the same he said that was how the body shops would repaint one because it's a lot quicker and easier. I was wondering if the factory might have started this on later models, any ideas?

I might not understand your post, but the outside color extended to the inside (on all edges of the door) to the edge of the outside door skin (which is turned around all edges towards the inside).

So, if the is no seal on the inside edge of the door, and you are looking at the inside of the door, you would see the exterior color all around the inside edge of the door (painted the outside color to the end of the outer door skin, which is turn over the door edge towards the inside of the door).

I'm not sure that I understand your reply. If you are looking at the inside of the door, the part of the door that you normally can't see when the door is shut is the same as the interior color. This is the part that my painter says he thought should be the same as the outside. ex. the place where the hinges are and the inside door latch.

Nope, your painter is incorrect, the interior parts of the door that you are referring-to are painted the interior color.

Look at the exterior door skin and at any outer edge of the door. You will see that the outer skin is bent-over towards the inside (on all outer edges of the door). There is 1/2" or less of a "lap" where the outside metal overlaps the inside metal. The outside color runs to end of the outer-metal overlap.
