I have an original 4.57 gears rear end on my 53 3/4ton truck. I am looking to swap pumpkins to get 4.10 gears. Owner of a 65 GMC 3/4 says he has 4.10 gears on a Dana rear that he thinks is original.

I don't think original rear on my truck was supposed to be Dana. Am I wrong, is he wrong? According to Jim Carters I can swap my pumpkin from a 67-72 C20 but they are not as clear about the 65 as the thought was this years might not have 4.1 gears.

I can get this 65 pumpkin for $50.00 but shipping will cost plenty so I am hopeful some of you guys can help.

thanks

Dennis

Oland, the dana gear carrier will not work for you. The dana rear end is a different animal then your stock GM axle. The stock cover is round, perfectly circular. The dana covers are not round, more squarish, or diamond shaped.

If the COMPLETE third member can be removed, it is an EATON rear end and was used from the mid1940`s to 1972 in 3/4 ton and 1-ton trucks. (kind of like a frod9-inch thirdmember)

There is enough good in the worst of us and enough bad in the best of us that it does not behoove any of us to criticize the rest of us.
