Engine: Is it a 261? I'm thinking not a Detroit 4-53 or 6-71, but possibly one of those bent 6's.

My vote goes for a V6, like a 351.

Sounds like you will be going to that auction with a check book.
Trucks like that generaly sell for a little over scrap price in rural Missouri.Scrapper will run it up to about $400 and then back off.
Have you called the auctioneer and asked for more info?
They are more than willing to give info to get another buyer there.
I hope to attend the Clark auction in Washington, Mo. on Jan.12 and watch the fire truck sell.
With a little over 10,000 miles on it, I suspect it will be out of the reach of my checkbook.
Good luck on saving another part of history.

The trans would be the SM420 if its a 4-speed, or maybe a NP540 if a 5-speed.
