I have a 5 speed transmission from a 91 s10 that had a 2.2 4 bangerin it, checks out good, is this a usable unit behind a v8 or should i look for something else. TIA Mike

What V-8 and how do you plan to drive it? GM never installed a T-5 behind a 350 or bigger motor though they did put it behind a 305.

My book has some blanks in it for 91 T5's. However from 89 on, the T5 torque capacities show 175-231 ft-lbs for the 2.2L 4 cyl as well as the 2.8L V6. The V8 T5's are showing a 300 ft-lb torque rating.

Based on those figures, and admitting I'm no expert on the T5, I'd be hesitant to try the lower rated box behind a V8. You want to be looking for a MK6 or M39 designated box with corresponding OD ratios of .73 and .63 repectively. Both these boxes have a 2.95 1st, 1.94 2nd,1.34 3rd and a 1:1 4th gear. In addition you may have to use an S10 tail housing and modify the speedo drive gear location if your cab layout is the same as the AD series.

Hopefully, someone who is running the setup will offer some information.

Dave

I,m running one behind a 350 & it,s working great. I,m not going to do burnouts or speed shifting though. The 88 up have electronic speedo drive & you will have to get an earlier tail housing or use a converter (very expensive) or electronic speedo.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.

thanks for all the input. the tranny will work then as this going be a daily driver not a hot rod. I may pull our bradley gt to car shows with it, but I doubt if that would be a problem.
