What he said. Likely it won't ride as nice or handle as well if you go very low.

On my '48 and '53 I went with 15" rally wheels and also removed 2 leafs from the front and 3 leafs from the rear. Lowered it to where it took the space between the fenders and the tires, made it pretty even and rides about the same. If you are like me when I removed the springs I had to replace the shackles and also the alignment pin in the springs, most of the time its just the allignment pin. while you are under there check all that stuff out! Make sure the truck is road ready and safe for ya.
Good luck!

Lowering is probably the first thing comes up when fixing up these old trucks. You want to go low, so research Must II vs Mono leaf, dropped axle, dropped spindles and subframes. Keep in mind that smaller wheels, tires require that old motor to produce more RPM's to keep up with traffic. On my 53 3100 I tried 15" wheels, removed couple of leafs from the front, 2" lowering blocks in back, and "short" schackles all around. Note: if you remove to many leafs the front will bottom out. My concern about removing leafs is that the remaining springs will be "safe". Last but not least, during all this you will want to pay close attention to the wheel bearings, kingpins, drag link, tie rods, brakes, and steering!!! In the end you want a truck thats fun to drive not scarry.
