Could you guys help me out here? I'm trying to figure out what goes where.
PICTURE

It appears that this engine was not setup for an oil filter?

I will help with what I know. H, my 54 has a coolant petcock there. Actually, the hydramatic throttle return spring hooks around it. G is oil pressure connection. My engine has a T fitting there for oil to filter and oil pressure guage. F is where the linkage pivot goes for hydramatic linkage instead of the forward position where yours is for manual transmission linkage pivot. E I think may be oil drainback for oil filter. A,B,C,and D, I need help on. I am sure that some of them are for generator mounting bracket but I don't know which ones. Hope this helps a little bit.

I believe that ABC are holes used for side mounts. I know GM shifted to sidemounts during 50's and started casting blocks for sidemount but also had front mount plates for replacement engines on older vehicles. On my truck I have a bracket that runs from A, across B, to D, which holds the generator/alternator.

My 1950 truck had center front mount only
My friends '57 truck, front crossmember, had ability for sidemount or front mount engines. The 235's where casted for side mounts untill front mounts where phased out. This truck had a '62 235 sidemount only replacement engine which I planned to use on my front mount only '50 truck.

I choose to make sidemounts on my frame and instead of milling block and exchanging mounting plate.

Somebody please correct me if Ive drawn some wrong conclusions

Any elaboration on this is greatly appreciated. This engine is going into a '51 half-ton which does not use side mounts.

Hi Woody,
A,B,C,D, Are generator/motor mount holes.
E, Is oil return,if youre running a filter
F, Is another bellcrank throttle mounting point.
G, Is oil pressure, straight off the oil galley.
H, Is block drain.(coolant)
For your truck, youll want to drill the front plate on the motor to accept the front mount.

Woody,

This series on a 235 rebuild from the Webrodder site seems right down your alley.
Lots of photos. Minimal advertising. Great info. Photos in Section 1 could have helped answer part of your opening question. My intention of mentioning this is FYI, not trying to advertise for their site or sponsors.

Thanks Randy,

When it gets that hyper-precise it get scary... wish I had access to that kind of expertise, and could afford it. Oh well, just doing the best I can with the resources I have.

Also a shame those articles can't be printed out frown
