i have a '59 1-ton, and i wanted disc brakes because i don't like running into stuff, but no one makes a disc brake kit, or can even remotely help me. there was a site about some fabrication that may work, but i would have to make my own caliper brakets, and i am really not sure about trying that, and i can't get ahold of the guy who did it. i would like too, just don't really know what i am doing there.

anyways, i was thinking that i could just use a front axle/spindle/hub setup from somebody's 1/2 ton truck, so i can get brakes. anybody have any thoughts on this. i would prefer to keep my 8-lug hubs, because i have already bought wheels, and i am on a tight budget here. io have heard the spindles are different, does anybody know this for sure? could somebody maybe post a few good close up shots of their 1/2 ton spindles please?

i plan to do the dakota ifs in the distant future, but i want brakes so i can drive this thing now.

There's really nothing wrong with using the drum brakes, if they're rebuilt properly. You're going to run into some real headaches trying to swap for a 1/2 ton front end, and I don't know of any way to adapt the 8-lug hubs once you do that. Where are you located? I'm about to part out a '59 3800, and the front axle and brakes are in pretty good shape. Email me!
