The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Engine Shop Curious Carb problem

I finally scrounged up enough parts to put together a "second" Rochester 1 barrel for my truck with a 216. Used a kit to replace gaskets, ball checks, springs, float valve, and accelerator pump. Installed it to test it out. Idles very smooth and throttles up fine at rest. Drive the truck and it wants to stall out upon braking. I set the RPM at 500 and even went up to 750 RPM at idle, but it still wants to die out when coming to a stop. I disassembled and checked all the settings (float level / drop). Can't seem to find the problem. This carb also runs leaner than the original, but will not "run" satisfactorily on the moving truck. Suggestions?

I have worked on many carbs. for 50 years. A long time ago I had a roch. B that did that. I spent hours trying different things & never could fix it. I went to another carb & it worked fine. To this day I can,t figure what was wrong. Sorry I can,t help but if you solve it I would like to know.

Have you checked the fuel pump had this happen before and it was the fuel pump going bad, would not throttle back when you slow down, after replacing fuel pump fixed problem. super250six.

Fuel pump is OK / rather new. Another "Bolter" suggested that the airhorn may be warped and allow gas to dump into the well at stopping / braking. Will check it out on a level surface.
