My 12 volt generator stopped working. I found one the field coils shorted to the generator case. I removed the field coil and found its insulation in really bad condition. I rewrapped the coil with "silicone fusion tape" and reassembled the generator. The generator now works perfectly. Anybody use this stuff before? Is silicone fusion tape acceptable for long term reliability? Should I start looking for replacement field coils?

You may be good for awhile using that tape, but if not dont worry very much as I have any of those coils that you would need, just keep my web site address if and when you need them.
