Its for a 49 half ton. I tried the search feature but it gave me everything but. Thanks. | | | | Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 2,644 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2007 Posts: 2,644 | There are some good illustrations in the Factory Assembly Manual. If you don't have one, just about all the vendors sell them. | | | | Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 46 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 46 | I just got the final pieces I needed for mine, there are some pics of the setup on page 6 of this link http://www.cardomain.com/ride/1969206 | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,952 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,952 | Those are excellent photos, thank you. The piece someone found for me, which I have yet to see, is described as a long straight channel with a flat plate on it and a 'duckbill' end. The truck already has the same channel slanting down as in your photo. | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 Bubba - Curmudgeon | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,262 | olblu49, Are you still looking for a diagram/photo of the other style tire holder? There were at least two style holders for 1/2 ton A-D trucks and, as stated above, there is a diagram in the Factory Assembly Manual. One style of the 3100 wheel carrier (from the Factory Assembly Manual). You will need all the hardware shown and the two supports (3696300). According to the major vendors who sell reproductions, there are two different designs. The early version fits 41-50 and the one in the link from tclederman shows the one for 51to?.
You can buy a new one that appears to be correct for your truck for $300 from Jim Carter... page 124 of their catalog. Other places sell them too at about the same price.

I will check the assy manual but its in the garage which is in the back 40. | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,952 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,952 | I have the impression that mine is the unit with the bent channel carrier which slides up a track. Reason is the sloped channel track is on the truck already and the later model with the two cross members will not fit. | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,952 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,952 | I picked up the piece today and it has a depression in the middle where the spare would lie and two angle irons attached across to keep the tire in place. There is no hardware with it and there is a half inch hole on either end. I don't know if its stock, according to what I have seen in the manuals and elsewhere and I am certain it is not been modified. I would like to post a photo but again I don't have the means to do so. If someone can identify it I could email a photo. | | | | Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 481 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Nov 2001 Posts: 481 | olblu49, it sounds like the correct spare tire mount. I can identify it if you want to send a picture. | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,952 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,952 | I just sent you a PM, thank you. | | | | Joined: Oct 2007 Posts: 397 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2007 Posts: 397 | Boy I could really use one of those also for "Lucille"!! She's a '46. My problem is that I don't want to spend the $300+ bucks to get one. Does anyone know if there are any decent drawings or illustrations for a '46 model under bed tire mount that could be interpolated so somehow I could either build it myself or have someone help me make the parts?

Someone mentioned wanting something and I replied there is one on eBay. If I had not replied here then he may not have seen it unless he scans eBay. | | | | Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,440 Extreme Gabster | Extreme Gabster Joined: May 2001 Posts: 7,440 | The rules are the rules and they are enforced. I tried to send you a PM to explain but you have PMs blocked.
This forum is intended to be a searchable database of old truck info. When someone searches for info on a spare tire mount 2 years from now, they aren't going to care that there was one on Ebay 2 years ago.
This forum is also not the place to argue about the rules you think shouldn't apply to you. | | | | Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,112 'Bolter | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2002 Posts: 9,112 | I have always wondered why the shop manual only shows a rim on the underside carrier for the 1 Ton. The answer is that with the 17" wheel, the tire is wider than the frame. I am lucky because my 16" wheel assembly is going to fit! | | |
