Does someone have or can refer me to a diagram of the set up for an under bed spare tire. Its for a 49 half ton. I tried the search feature but it gave me everything but.
Thanks.

There are some good illustrations in the Factory Assembly Manual. If you don't have one, just about all the vendors sell them.

Those are excellent photos, thank you. The piece someone found for me, which I have yet to see, is described as a long straight channel with a flat plate on it and a 'duckbill' end. The truck already has the same channel slanting down as in your photo.

olblu49,

Are you still looking for a diagram/photo of the other style tire holder? There were at least two style holders for 1/2 ton A-D trucks and, as stated above, there is a diagram in the Factory Assembly Manual.

One style of the 3100 wheel carrier (from the Factory Assembly Manual).

You will need all the hardware shown and the two supports (3696300).

Olblue49,

According to the major vendors who sell reproductions, there are two different designs. The early version fits 41-50 and the one in the link from tclederman shows the one for 51to?.

You can buy a new one that appears to be correct for your truck for $300 from Jim Carter... page 124 of their catalog. Other places sell them too at about the same price.

I have the impression that mine is the unit with the bent channel carrier which slides up a track. Reason is the sloped channel track is on the truck already and the later model with the two cross members will not fit.

I picked up the piece today and it has a depression in the middle where the spare would lie and two angle irons attached across to keep the tire in place. There is no hardware with it and there is a half inch hole on either end. I don't know if its stock, according to what I have seen in the manuals and elsewhere and I am certain it is not been modified. I would like to post a photo but again I don't have the means to do so. If someone can identify it I could email a photo.

olblu49, it sounds like the correct spare tire mount.
I can identify it if you want to send a picture.

Boy I could really use one of those also for "Lucille"!! She's a '46. My problem is that I don't want to spend the $300+ bucks to get one. Does anyone know if there are any decent drawings or illustrations for a '46 model under bed tire mount that could be interpolated so somehow I could either build it myself or have someone help me make the parts?

Well I wasn't trying to sell something on eBay. Someone mentioned wanting something and I replied there is one on eBay. If I had not replied here then he may not have seen it unless he scans eBay.

The rules are the rules and they are enforced. I tried to send you a PM to explain but you have PMs blocked.

This forum is intended to be a searchable database of old truck info. When someone searches for info on a spare tire mount 2 years from now, they aren't going to care that there was one on Ebay 2 years ago.

This forum is also not the place to argue about the rules you think shouldn't apply to you.

I have always wondered why the shop manual only shows a rim on the underside carrier for the 1 Ton. The answer is that with the 17" wheel, the tire is wider than the frame. I am lucky because my 16" wheel assembly is going to fit!
