hello. i am looing at a truck on craigslist.1956 chevy truck, has spare wheel mounted on drivers side.
the pics are tough to tell, but looks like a long bed.
the guy told me it says 3100 on the emblems, but has 6 lug wheels.
what is it ?
are 3100 trucks all 6 lugs, or are they 5 lugs ?
is it possible a 3100 is a shortbed with 6 lugs ?

i have a 1966 c-10 shortbed stepside, i also have 6 lugs
but i am going to convert to 5 lug, more selection of
wheels, personally i like the stepsides. i looked at
a few stepsides with the tire mounted on drivers side
in my opinion it looks better without the tire there
i think most of the older trucks had the 6 lug pattern
im not an authority on this, just what i see.

True,the older trucks had six lug wheels,even the 1/2 tons.I believe the 3100 designates a 1/2 ton short bed.I think the 3200 was the long bed. If I am wrong someone will correct me here.Long or short ,it all depends on what you like. The short ones seem to have more value. As far as the spare tire mount on the side,most people do away with them,but for originality you would want to keep it.

thanks for the help guys... the 6 lug thing was throwing me off, thinking that alone meant long bed. but i see even the short bed 1/2 tons are 6 lugs..thanks fof the help...

You are right Dale. The 3100 is a short bed. They all had 6 lug wheels up to 71. I like the side mount. It is nostalgic.
